You should never edit anything in the Windows Registry, unless you are absolutely sure of what you are doing. A simple mistake is sufficient to cripple the operating system. To prevent any permanent damage, Regbak can help you back up the registry and undo all your changes if you do something wrong. The application is lightweight and it works fast, so you will not spend too much time backing up your registry.

Regbak is offered free of charge and it can be used on Windows 2000 or any later edition. The application doesn't need to be installed. You can extract its components directly from a ZIP archive, which is only 331 KB large.

A backup copy of the entire registry can be created immediately and it takes only a few seconds to complete the operation. You just need to specify an output folder, if you are not satisfied with the default location, and click a button. Additionally, you can choose to back up specific registry hives, like the System, Current User or others.

Regbak allows you to create multiple backups and store them anywhere you want. Before creating a backup, you can set the application to overwrite existing backups and to delete all backups or just the new ones after a certain number of days. All backups are listed on a separate window, regardless of their locations on the hard drive. Each backup is displayed with a few details, like their storage paths, root folders or the operating system on which they were created. You can select a backup and use different options to open its storage folder, delete it or use it to restore the registry.

Pros

It takes only a few seconds to back up the entire registry. You can choose which hives to back up and set the application to delete the backups after a certain period of time.

Cons

The possibility of scheduling automatic backup tasks would be a welcomed feature. With Regbak, you may keep one or more backup copies of your registry and use them to undo any mistakes you make.
